Prof. Thomas Stegmann joined the Macromedia University in 2014 and he holds a professorship for design at the Berlin campus.

In the early nineties, Prof. Stegmann studied industrial design at the UDK in Berlin. As part of his degree course, he specialised in the newly emerging field of Interaction Design. For four years he worked as an Interaction Designer for IDEO in London and San Francisco where his customer accounts included companies such as Sony, Prada and BMW.

In 2001, Prof. Stegmann witnessed the collapse of the New Economy while working at Razorfish in Hamburg. Afterwards, he spent six years running product design and branding at CoreMedia, a producer of high-end content management system software. Since 2011, he has worked with start-ups in Berlin and provided training courses to companies under the name of StoryThinkers. Prof. Stegmann has been teaching conceptual design and mobile media at the Beuth University in Berlin since 2012.

Prof. Stegmann’s teaching is informed by his broad theoretical knowledge and practical experience in design thinking. As part of teams, he is heavily involved with creative processes and the use of tools such as personas and scenarios. He also conducts research on service design and potential applications for storytelling.

At the Macromedia University, Stegmann strives to impart an exciting approach to creativity, diverse design processes and the principles of human centred design in theory and practice.
