Occupation following studies: Product Manager, Warner Music UK
Where are you currently working and how is your job position called?
I work as an International Product Manager at Warner Music UK in London.

What are the daily duties and responsibilities in your job?
I’m responsible for different artists and work very closely with various Warner Music offices in other locations, in order to coordinate the marketing and promotion campaigns of the artists. This involves a lot traveling, mainly together with the musicians, to implement the campaigns with the different media partners and labels.

Why did you choose this job and what excites you about it?
I generally love the combination of travel and music – which is exactly what I’m doing in my job. Apart from that, I get the chance to work very closely with musicians and get to know different people from all over the world.

Is this the kind of job you where hoping for when you were still studying?
I knew I wanted to work in the music industry, but I wasn’t exactly sure about the explicit direction. Nevertheless, a professional label has always been my first choice and I’m more than lucky that I ended up at one of the biggest labels worldwide. More than that, the position perfectly fits my skills.

Do you think that the university and the practice project collaborations prepared you well enough for the real working life?
The hands-on mentality of Macromedia University gave me the chance to gain insights into the different areas of the industry. This is still very obvious the way I cope with my daily duties.

In which company did you do your practice semester and what kind of experiences did you gain during the internship?
I actually completed my internship at Warner Music UK, but in the Digital Marketing department. I wouldn’t be where I am right now, without that experience. The people I got to know during that time helped me a lot and now belong to the people I call friends.

Looking back, how do you feel about the semester you spent at the international partner university? Did you gain important impulses?
I spent my semester abroad in Madrid. We were the first generation to complete one semester overseas. Hence, there were a few initial difficulties, but I wouldn’t have want to miss it.  Although, I have to admit that Madrid is pretty cold in the winters.

Did you get along with your fellow students? Are you still in contact with them and what do you expect to gain from those contacts in future?
We were a relatively small group and we did have a great time together. We even started additional projects besides the regular university projects. I would love to meet few of them, when I come back to Munich some time, but apart from that we are still in regular contact.

Looking back, what do you miss the most?
The leisure time.

In general, what do you think about the current topic of development and change?

One of the first things that come to my mind is digitalization, especially in regards to the music industry and streaming. It’s incredible how things in the industry have changed since I completed my internship and there is still a lot to come. It’s a daily-learning – for all of us.

Do you think it’s important to be openminded towards change, in order to survive the modern world?

It won’t be possible without such a mindset. As I already mentioned: the music industry changes monthly.

Do you already know where you want to be in ten years?
I could imagine working at Warner Music UK for a few years. Or maybe I’ll be confronted with completely new and different opportunities. I don’t want to make up my mind just yet.

Do you have any advice for our freshmen?

Enjoy the time during your studies! You’ll never have as much spare time again and always try new things.
