Media and Communication Management

Occupation following studies: Digital Content Producer, Airbnb Inc.
Where are you currently working and how is your job position called?
I work at Airbnb as Digital Content Producer (in the Public Policy Team in Berlin).

What are the daily tasks and responsibilities in your job?
I am responsible for the creation of digital content in the area of public policy. In that manner I take care of the strategic and operational content topics within the German-speaking market. This implies e-Mail, social media, blog content as well as photo- and video productions and all the design projects.

Why did you choose this job and what excites you about it?
Almost all of my past jobs were in the digital content department of companies, in the area of travel and holiday. That’s the reason why Airbnb has always been interesting to me as an employer and company in general.  Airbnb and at the same time my job are changing at an extreme pace — that’s exactly the right setting for me to feel comfortable.

Is this the kind of job you where hoping for when you were still studying?
Hard to say – I certainly didn’t expect to end up in the area of public policy. While searching for a job, I was mainly focused on finding a dynamic workplace in an international surrounding and smart colleagues, in a team in which I can continuously learn and grow. That’s exactly what I found at Airbnb.

Do you think that the university and the practice projects prepared you well enough for the real working life?
I think a master’s degree is a solid basis for me to build on, in general. The regular conferences and presentations were a great way to get a glimpse of different areas and make new contacts. Besides that, I really appreciated the universities combination of theory and practice.

Did you get along with your fellow students? Are you still in contact with them and what do you expect to gain from those contacts in future?
I was pretty close with my fellow students, but I also worked pretty much during my studies, which means that I didn’t spent as much time with the group after class as others might have done.

Looking back, what do you miss the most?
The practical relevance, strategy and communication theory classes and the joint work on my master thesis with Prof. Friese.

In general, what do you think about the current topic of development and change? Do you think it’s important to be openminded towards change, in order to survive the modern world?

I’ve been working in the area of digital content for a few years. The only constant has been change and development. I don’t look at change as a threat, but rather as a challenge and as a chance.

Do you already know where you want to be in ten years?

Not really — I actually am more focused on targeting skills, than targeting job positions I might obtain.

Do you have any advice for our freshmen?
Take the extra step!
