What distinguishes one school from another? What values is that school instilling in its pupils? For private education institutes, creating a clear profile of the school’s community is of utmost importance- especially with regards to attracting potential students. 

Diverse range of services: logo development & website layout, photo shooting & imagery


As a part of a semester-long practice project, Macromedia University design students crafted well-developed rebranding proposals for the Wuppertal Private School. The goal was to sharpen the WPS’s online presence and create an optimal image of the institution. The students did multiple photoshoots for mock-ups of new website layouts, as well as new logo designs that had more modern, but still youthful, approaches. The teams had to work on creating multi-faceted proposals that incorporated communications, marketing, design, and more. 

Creating brand value: design thinking workshop

Using the design thinking methodology, the students worked closely with the Wuppertal School board to develop a new set of brand values: "Authentic. Individual. Familiar. - Without Exception.” In the subsequent design process, the Cologne students crafted visual mockups using elements such as typography, potential website headlines, photography, and new logos. The work culminated into well-developed website proposals. 

The teams wanted to keep in line with the newly selected brand values of authenticity and individuality. To achieve this, they did multiple photoshoots to replace the stock photos that WPS had on their website. In addition to having self-owned material, this also meant the imagery could be more finely tuned to the vision of WPS’s new brand image and values. At the end of the semester, student teams had produced 6 different proposals for the Wuppertal Private School, which they presented to the school’s board and management.
