Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau: Multimedia productions

The Bauhaus celebrates its 100th birthday. It was the most influential art school of the 20th century and was founded with the idea of creating a “total” work of art which should include all kinds of art inclosing architecture. Bauhaus was the key to European modernity and a milestone in the history of architecture and design ideas. Therefore, it is no surprise, that it is part of the UNESCO world cultural heritage since 1996.

To highlight its importance the Bauhaus Museum in Dessau will open its doors in September 2019 and will host the second largest Bauhaus collection worldwide. Inserted into the ensemble of historic buildings, the entire Bauhaus culture can be experienced in one place and in a completely new way.

Master students of the Macromedia University, under the direction of design professor Oliver Szasz, had the honour to contribute their ideas for the digital communication of the museum. Their task was to integrate Bauhaus objects into a multimedia world, to enable visitors to virtually discover and experience the city and see all the works of Bauhaus architects, urban planners and artists without being distracted by other (new) buildings or streets.

Dr. Helga Huskamp, head of communication and spokeswoman of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation was very satisfied with the students´ concept.

“The cooperation with the master student´s was very valuable in different ways. Firstly, the student’s methodological approach of Design Thinking has enabled a deeper analysis of the situation and visitor expectations. They also organized a workshop to profile the target audience and find out specific needs. Moreover, it was helpful, that the students had similar characteristics like age and international background as the target audience and could therefore present very independent and convincing ideas and approaches. The project helped us a lot to further develop our digital communication and we are thankful for the opportunity to work together. The work was absolutely professional.”
