Stadtfarm Berlin: Digital Marketing Concept
Regional, sustainable, eco-friendly: these attributes are typical of contemporary food consumption. But how can such demands be realized in the increasingly densely populated urban areas?

The answer is: urban farming or urban gardening, and Stadtfarm Berlin is a good example.

Since 2017, Europe's largest glass AquaTerraPonik facility has been producing 50 tons of African catfish and 30 tons of lettuce per year on Berlin's city grounds, along with herbs, tomatoes and cucumbers, but also exotic foods such as bananas, Ceylon spinach or passion fruit.

In the 2020 summer semester, the operators of Stadtfarm Berlin cooperated with master students from Macromedia University, supervised by Prof. Dr. Gernot Wolfram. Their task for the media management students: To improve online marketing and to raise awareness for the products and services of Stadtfarm Berlin among a suitable clientele of nutrition-conscious Berlin citizens.

Based on a comprehensive website analysis with a focus on usability, performance and SEO optimization, the students developed a digital marketing concept for the farm.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project took place completely online. Only for the final customer meeting a delegation of two students was selected. On behalf of the entire course, Barbara Jana Ernst and Tafadzwa Nyandoro presented the semester results in the Stadtfarm premises - and posed there for a quick photo without masks outdoors. "Sustainability and digital transformation are core topics for Macromedia University. Therefore the innovation concept of the Stadtfarm is very exciting for us. We hope that we will be able to continue the cooperation," commented the supervising Prof. Dr. Gernot Wolfram on the students' work.
