Fashion Design III: Signature and Disruption
In their fourth semester, students of Atelier Chardon Savard developed a so-called "Capsul Collection". Similar to the situation of a new creative director in an established label, the students had to capture the DNA of an reknowned designer and develop it further.

The ability to design for a label and develop innovative visions while remaining true to its core values is one of the fundamental skills of every fashion designer.

Patterns, Colors, Volume: Analysis of the Signature Look

In a first step, the students of the Chardon Savard studio were challenged to select a fashion label from the luxury segment and to work out its design characteristics. Recurring patterns, colors, typical volumes or other important details - in this step the students learned to reduce the handwriting of designers to its most distinctive characteristics and to describe it precisely.

This so-called Signature Look formed the basis for the students' creative tasks: to develop diverse, imaginative variations on fabrics, shapes and colors while remaining clearly in the design language of the Signature Look. In further steps, the students worked out their variations in 2D and 3D visualizations.

Fashion Design, Fashion Illustration and Communication: Interdisciplinary Task

In total, the students produced a mood board and a research board, a selection of materials and a collection of 10 outfits under the direction of their professor Karolin Violante, which they presented in sampled drawings and technical drawings as well as 3 editorials. They worked on the drawing table, the sewing machine and in the illustration programs of the Adobe Creative Cloud. Only the usual photo shoot at the end of the semester had to be cancelled due to the pandemic; they still took pictures - but without models.
