Top Ratings for Contact with Work Environment and Entrepreneurial Thinking: Macromedia Scores Well in U-Multirank

Contact with work environment, graduating on time and entrepreneurial spirit: These are just a few of the qualities attested to Macromedia University by U-Multirank, the largest international university comparison with close to 1,800 participants. In the categories "Contact with work environment" and "Income from continuous professional development", Macromedia University is even amid the top 25 performers worldwide. It is also among the 40 most successful global institutions as well as one of Germany’s frontrunners in terms of "Graduate Companies". The initiator of the independent university comparison is the European Commission.

"I am very pleased with the performance of our university at U-Multirank. With its multidimensional view of university teaching, the ranking succeeds in demonstrating the strengths of the individual institutions very well. Even small, specialised universities like Macromedia University can stand out in respect to their core competencies. Six times the highest grade ‘A’ and a placement among the international top 15 percent of all business schools evaluated: That is a great confirmation of our strategic orientation", says Prof. Dr. Dr. Castulus Kolo, President of Macromedia University.

A total of almost 1,800 universities took part in the ranking; 104 of them German. The current ranking focused on the academic disciplines of Engineering, Mathematics & Sciences, Social Sciences and Health. Macromedia University was not only assessed in terms of the interdisciplinary institutional ranking but also more specifically with the range of courses offered by its Business and Media Faculty, reaching the world's top 15 percent of all 511 universities in the field of business studies.

Contact to Work Environment: Macromedia is "Global Top 25 Performer”

Top 25 in a worldwide comparison: This is strong evidence of the pronounced practical relevance of the Macromedia degree programmes. This evaluation at university level included indicators such as the obligatory internship semester, the engagement of external professionals in teaching and the realisation of cooperation as well as practical projects. Prof. Dr. Jochen Pampel, Dean of the Business Faculty, commented: "As a University of Applied Sciences, we are committed to constantly adapting our teaching to the dynamic changes in the relevant industries. To this end, we maintain a systematic exchange with our practice and corporate partners. I am pleased that U-Multirank reflects this important part of our teaching so clearly."

International Orientation: Macromedia is one of the most international universities in Germany

Macromedia University also scored well with its international orientation. According to U-Multirank, it is one of the 100 most international universities worldwide. Out of the 104 German universities, it is even among the ten most international ones. Decisive factors were top scores in the criteria foreign language master programmes, student mobility, and international academic staff. "With our English-language programmes, we focused on an international, very mobile clientele of young professionals from an early stage. Thus, practical relevance and international orientation at Macromedia usually go hand in hand", says Prof. Tanja Schmitt-Fumian, Dean of the Macromedia Faculty of Creative Arts.

Graduating on time: Macromedia students have their degree well in sight

The university ranking showed that 99 percent of management students at Macromedia University complete their studies within the standard period of study. This is the result of the evaluation of the graduate numbers for the years 2017 and 2018 for both Bachelor and Master students of the Business Faculty. "Many of our students show a great development during their studies. I know that this is also due to the close professional support by the faculty. For me, this is perhaps the best score in the ranking", says Prof. Dr. Florian Haumer, Dean of the Media Faculty at Macromedia University.

Number 2 in Germany: Macromedia conveys entrepreneurial spirit

Macromedia University is also particularly suitable for students who want to start their own business. As the U-Multirank university comparison impressively demonstrates, Macromedia University of Applied Sciences equips its students with the necessary know-how and spirit. With 56 company founders amid 1,000 graduates, Macromedia University is number 2 in Germany overall and number 1 among the German Universities of Applied Sciences. Start-ups successfully managed by Macromedia graduates include agencies, platform operators, game developers or developers of VR and AR apps.

"I'm not at all surprised by our good performance in this category," says Castulus Kolo. "The digital economy is excellent for business start-ups. The university systematically promotes this entrepreneurial perspective. In fact, some of the business ideas our alumni later realised were developed in corresponding courses".

About U-Multirank
U-Multirank is a multidimensional, user-driven approach to international ranking of higher education institutions. It compares the performances of higher education institutions – in short: universities – in the five dimensions of university activity: (1) teaching and learning, (2) research, (3) knowledge transfer, (4) international orientation and (5) regional engagement. The U-Multirank web tool enables comparisons at the level of the university as a whole and at the level of specific study programmes. Based on empirical data, U-Multirank compares institutions with similar institutional profiles (‘like-with-like’) and allows users to develop their own personalised rankings by selecting indicators in terms of their own preferences. With the evaluation of almost 1,800 universities from over 90 countries, U-Multirank is one of the most comprehensive and detailed evaluation programmes for universities worldwide.

U-Multirank is funded by the European Commission, the Bertelsmann Foundation and Banco Santander. It is developed and implemented by an independent consortium led by the Centre for Higher Education (CHE) in Germany, the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) at the University of Twente and the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) from Leiden University, both in the Netherlands, as well as the Foundation for Knowledge and Development (Fundación CYD) in Spain.
