Macromedia meets FIFA: Innovation in Football

How to navigate the changing football environment? How to have a career in sports? Nicolas Evans from the Football Technology Innovation Department at FIFA answered these questions at the latest MacroSphere event at the Macromedia campus in Munich.

How to navigate the changing world of football

Students had the opportunity to gain insights from an expert on global sport and learn how to navigate the changing world of football. By highlighting the interdependence of sports and technology, he shared how innovation is essential in FIFA and other sports stakeholders to work with a changing ecosystem that is seeing changing sports consumption affected by social media, instant responses and complex media statements. One concrete example of this innovation process is the video assistant refereeing project that pinpoints the importance of a clear research question and sufficient time to trial for the success of the project.

Keep in touch with FIFA

"We are looking forward to exploring possible research projects with FIFA in various fields, practical interactions like excursions to FIFA headquarters and more. Today’s event with Mr. Evans is the successful kickoff for this” says Prof. Mohamed Badr the Munich Head of media faculty.

From his side Nicolas Evans underlined the professional level of the university students which was reflected in the quality of questions he received from the students, “We are keen to engage with the scientific community of many different universities and research institutes. As part of our innovation process, we have many areas within Football Technology that we are exploring and are keen to find motivated parties that share this enthusiasm” says Evans.

Q&A and networking

After the talk, students were able to network with Evans and learn from his advice on how to further their career within the sports world. There were many key takeaways for the 60+ attendees and was another widely successful event!
