Macromedia Student from Berlin Campus Receives DAAD-Prize

Berlin’s Macromedia student José Alberto Espinosa Fernández receives the DAAD-Prize endowed with 1.000 Euro and funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) through the STIBET programme and Federal Foreign Office funds. The Jury decided to reward his outstanding commitment for international students at Macromedia that enriches the system of higher education in general.

„I very much appreciate Mr Espinosa’s integrity and fight against any kind of discrimination as well as his journalistic instinct and disseminator function. Contributing to integration and the organization of cultural projects at the Berlin campus, he more than deserves this prize“, Prof. Dr. Gernot Wolfram, Head of Macromedia Graduate School Berlin, emphasizes.

Award winner Espinosa: human rights as the theme of his life

José Alberto Espinosa Fernández is enrolled in Media and Communication Management (M.A.) and is about to finish his studies. He currently analyzes perspectives of independent print publishers in Mexico. Since the beginning of his studies the native Mexican intensively takes part in the activities of Macromedia’s international community. He participated in Macromedia’s buddy program and initiated a Help Desk for students. Furthermore, Mr Espinosa promoted the so-called „Temporary University“. This Macromedia project offers diversity, cultural and media and communication lectures and activities for refugees and aims to let them take part in the intellectual debates of their new home. Parallel to his studies Espinosa frequently publishes articles about human rights and volunteered in several NGO’s in Mexico.

Macromedia Berlin: Prominent in intercultural research

For the second year in a row a student of Macromedia’s Berlin campus receives the prize. Dean Prof. Dr. Dr. Castulus Kolo is not surprised at all: „Most international Macromedia students are enrolled in Berlin. The fascination that Berlin‘s art and creative scene exerts on young people worldwide remains unbroken. Moreover, the Berlin campus’s reputation of  non-profit initiatives, empowerment and research on intercultural communication indebted to Prof. Dr. Gernot Wolfram attracts students like José Alberto Espinosa Fernández to Macromedia for their studies.“ #youchange
