Study and Finance Models

Macromedia University and the University of Westminster offer different study and finance models for their PhD programme:

Part-time study within the framework of a further education measure
The PhD programme can be defined as a long-term further education measure. The employer contributes in the financing of the tuition fees and releases the employee for the scientific work. These agreements are made directly between the PhD student and the employer. It is common practice that the promoted employee continues working in part-time and course achievements are stretched on six to eight years.

Part-time study in combination with a research assistantship
The PhD candidate is employed as a research assistant at Macromedia University. These so-called „WiMi“-positions include work obligations in extent of 30 hours per week. Approximately 20 hours are devoted to preparing and exercising undergraduate teaching. Approximated 10 hours are dedicated to research, including research relevant for one’s own PhD thesis. In exchange WiMi’s are exempted from tuition fees and draw a salary of 1.360,- € gross – if the position is a full time position. The research assistantship may be arranged on a part-time basis as well – conditions will be adjusted accordingly. The aim is that research assistants complete the PhD programme within four years. Interest in a research assistantship should be mentioned in the cover letter.

Full-time study at the University of Westminster
Self-paying candidates do the PhD in full time. Life and work organization is not regulated by contract; the aim is to complete the PhD programme in four years.
